Man arrested for throwing perfume on girlfriend, then setting her on fire

Pittsburgh’s WTAI reported Saturday that a Pennsylvania man has been arrested after he allegedly poured perfume on his girlfriend and then set her on fire.

According to WPXI, Springdale police said Maria Redman, 22, was burned on over 30 percent of her body Thursday morning when Clinton Cohen, 27, threw perfume on her and lit her on fire with a cigarette lighter. Next, he threw a blanket at her and then walked out of the apartment.

The couple has an infant daughter who was at home in her crib when the apparent domestic dispute occurred, according to police.

“It was a verbal domestic dispute and he began choking her, then punched her,” said Lt. Jeff Korczyk in an interview with WPXI. “Cohen then opened a bottle of perfume, poured it over the victim and lit it with a cigarette lighter.”

Korczyk also said the couple’s daughter had some blood spatter on her from her mother, who remains in the hospital where she is in critical, but stable condition.

Cohen has been charged with attempted homicide, aggravated assault and endangering the welfare of children.
