Man arrested for spitting on Obama's Secret Service agent

Perhaps a mild crime story for the city of Chicago – yet, a terribly bizarre and bold one – the Chicago Tribune reported that, on Sunday, Kevin Lawrence, who lives just seven blocks from President Barack Obama’s home in the South Side neighborhood of Hyde Park, was ordered held on $50,000 bond after having been accused of spitting in the face of a Secret Service agent who has been assigned to guarding President Obama’s Chicago home last. The incident occurred on Dec. 29, 2012.

According to a police report, Lawrence, 46, approached a vehicle at stationed on the 5000 block of South Greenwood Avenue - the block where President Barack Obama’s home is located – when an agent was sitting in the vehicle.

Lawrence, of the 5200 block of South Harper Avenue, is accused of spitting inside the car. The spit allegedly landed on the agent’s face and neck. The spitter was charged with aggravated battery of a peace officer.

The Chicago Police Department could offer no explanation as to why it took two weeks following the incident for Lawrence to be arrested. The case will be in court on Friday.
