A Hamilton County man facing animal abuse and aggravated menacing charges appeared in court on Monday for arraignment.

Bond was set at $100,000 for Standley Bryant, 59, of Lincoln Heights, Ohio.

Witnesses claim Bryant picked up a dog off the ground by its chain, choking the dog. He also allegedly hit the mixed-breed dog multiple times on the head with a shovel and belt.

Bryant then threatened a neighbor he believed called the police on him. Bryant said he would shoot the woman in the face and kill her kids and family once he was released from jail.

At his arraignment, Bryant told the judge if he hadn't struck the dog, it would have bitten him. The next court date will be March 4 at the Hamilton County Courthouse.

The dog was turned over to the SPCA for treatment.
