The man arrested for growing the marijuana was forty-year- old Jason Lewis, who claims he only uses the marijuana for medical purposes.
Lewis says he has back problems and lost a leg at 14 from an automobile accident. He also states the marijuana is the only thing that eases the pain.
Currently he is only charged with growing the marijuana, maintaining a dwelling for the manufacture, and possession of a firearm by a felon.
The investigation took two months before the authorities converged on Lewis’ home to find the growing operation.
The street value of the thirty-one plants found in his home is valued at $77,000. The equipment used to grow the plants was taken with the plants to the Sheriff’s office.
Lewis’ bond was set at $100,000 since the state of North Carolina has no law allowing marijuana for medical purposes or to grow it.
