Man arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting girlfriend's 8-year-old niece

A man was arrested Tuesday for allegedly sexual assaulting his girlfriend’s 8-year-old niece while the couple was staying with the child and her dad at their Spartanburg County home.

Mr. Hector Emiliano Vasquez, 26, of North Haven Drive in Greenville, was charged with first-degree criminal sexual conduct with a minor, according to the Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office.

The investigation into the alleged incident began in December when the dad filed a police report after his daughter told him of an incident that happened months earlier, according to the sheriff's department’s news release.

“[The] victim disclosed that a sexual act happened,” deputies said.

Investigators said the suspect is the victim’s aunt’s boyfriend. Both the suspect and his girlfriend were living with 8-year-old girl and her father for a few months in the early part of 2012.

“Due to victim’s age, she had to be seen for a forensic interview at the Children’s Advocacy Center,” deputies said.

Mr. Vasquez remained in the county jail Thursday with no bond, according to the jail's booking records.
