According to Saturday's CBS New York, a Long Island man has been arrested for allegedly beating a dog with a baseball bat.
The man accused of the brutal act of cruelty is 26-year-old Steven Errante who was arrested on Friday following an investigation into the event which took place last Sunday.
Errante is accused of brutalizing a mixed-breed dog with a baseball bat; the beating left the dog, dubbed "Girl," with severe wounds, including broken bones and internal injuries.
Though the grievously wounded dog survived for a few days, the severity of her injuries ultimately claimed her life and she passed away after developing complications on Friday night.
The man accused of causing the dog's death is facing charges of aggravated cruelty to animals and second degree assault.
Police have discovered that Errante had previously assaulted a man.
Messages of grief and anger over "Girl's" death have been pouring into the Facebook support page which was created in her honor.
On Saturday morning, the following solemn words were written for Girl:
We are riddled with grief and sadness over the loss of this sweet baby. She touched the hearts of so many, she was loved by thousands and she will forever live in our hearts.
The case against Errante is ongoing; anyone with information is asked to phone the authorities at (631) 854-8252.
