Man arrested after woman thrown onto subway tracks in Philadelphia

While a young woman was waiting for the train in Pennsylvania this week, a man approached her and began punching her in the head. Then he hauled her by the ankles and hurled her on the tracks.

Heather Redfern, a spokeswoman for the Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority, said the suspect, William Clark, “faces assault, robbery, theft and reckless endangerment charges.”

Around 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Clark walked up to the woman. “They were the only people at the Eighth and Race streets stop” in Philadelphia's Chinatown, said Redfern.

Fortunately, a surveillance camera captured the assault, according to CNN. The video shows Clark assaulting the woman.

The victim told CNN affiliate KYW that she tried to resist him as much as possible. While on the tracks, she said “the first thing that popped in my head was my son." Then the victim climbed to safety.

“After the attack, the man, who is thought to be homeless, took the victim's cell phone and left the subway station.”

Clark was later arrested on Thursday. Police want to know why he attacked the woman. Though they believe Clark could be “mentally unstable.”
