Man accused of trying to kill female coworker by poisoning her shoes

A man who is accused of trying to murder his female coworker by poisoning her shoes has been arrested, according to a March 29, 2013 Japan Times report.

Tatsujiro Fukasawa, 40, was arrested for attempted murder after allegedly placing hydrofluoric acid in the woman’s shoes on Dec. 5, while the two worked in Shizuoka Prefecture, Japan.

The coworker began to experience unusual foot pain and went to the hospital for relief.

Police were later called by the hospital, the Times reports.

Fukasawa, who denies the allegations against him, was in charge of storing the hydrofluoric acid at his workplace.

The Times notes the chemical can be absorbed through the skin and if it gets into the bloodstream it can “lead to systemic failure.”

Two months before the most recent incident, the woman reportedly experienced pain in her feet when she wore boots, and sought medical treatment for the issue, police sources told the website. Authorities are investigating that incident to determine if Fukasawa was involved.
