Man accused of stomping dog to death during burglary arrested

The man believed to be responsible for burglarizing a Newport, Tenn., family and stomping their small dog, "Simon," to death, has been arrested.

According to Thursday's WBIR News, Newport Police have arrested 22-year-old Chris Haney.

Haney is facing multiple charges for the burglary which took place in late November at the LaForce family's home; included are charges of aggravated burglary and aggravated animal cruelty.

Killed during the burglary was 14-month-old "Simon," a terrier who was the favorite companion to the family's eight-year-old daughter.

Simon was discovered in a pool of blood and appeared to have been stomped, and possibly kicked in the head.

Though thousands of dollars of possessions were taken that day, the one thing that could never be replaced is the small dog who died a brutal death.
