Man accused of killing toddler

A Suffolk man is accused of killing a young Amityville boy, punching him in the abdomen after the boy would not take a nap.

Jonathan Thompson, of Amityville, had been baby-sitting Adonis Reed, in their home at the time the boy in their home at the time he was attacked on Wednesday.

Thompson apparently attacked the boy because he would not nap, with blows causing multiple lacerations to the boy's liver. Thompson was later arrested on Friday, in Brooklyn.

He has pleaded not guilty to second-degree murder, and is being held without bail. He appeared in court on Saturday morning.

Thompson has prior convictions for grand larceny, robbery, and identity theft.

Adonis Reed was found passed out in Thompson's apartment, by another tenant of the house. He was later pronounced dead at an area hospital, several hours later.

Reed was living with his godmother and her live-in boyfriend, Thompson. His death prompted authorities to remove the boy's older sister from the godmother's custody, and restored to the children's mother.
