Man accused of killing 78-year-old & tribal officer, wounding 2 St Mary deputies

Wilbert Thibodeaux, 48, has been booked with arson, murder, and attempted murder.

Trooper Stephen Hammons said Thibodaux shot Lyons, “then a tribal police officer and two deputies who answered the report.” The names of those officers will be released on Monday.

According to Hammons, the body of Eddie Lyons, 78, was discovered in a mobile home that had been set on fire Saturday.

This was before someone called 911 reporting that an “armed man was walking down a street near the Chitimacha (chit-ih-MAH-chuh) tribal casino.”

Louisiana State Police reported that Thibodeaux allegedly shot two deputies who are now out of critical condition.

This suspect is currently “being held without bond in the Iberia Parish jail.”
