A woman from Gainesville, Fla. is lucky to be alive after telling police in Alachua County that her live-in boyfriend beat her and locked her in a bedroom where the man rubbed dog feces on her, spit on her, threatened to kill her, and then beat her some more. The woman managed to escape being held captive by the abusive boyfriend and was able to share her story with police. According to The Florida Inquirer, the boyfriend, 26-year-old Ventrall L. Wright of Gainesville, was arrested by deputies with the Alachua County Sheriff's Office on June 5.
Currently residing in the Alachua County jail in lieu of $180,000 bond, Wright has been charged with attempted homicide, false imprisonment, obstructing justice and battery. He told the arresting officers he really didn’t mean to harm his girlfriend.
According to the arrest report filed by the Alachua County Sheriff's Office and shared by Gainesville.com, deputies taking the woman’s statement wrote that the couple got into an argument beginning around 10:16 a.m. on Thursday. The argument grew physical when Wright allegedly physically assaulted the woman, striking her numerous times “all over her body.”
The arrest report stated that Wright told the woman that “his face was the last face she was going to ever see.”
The report went on to state that Wright grabbed the woman by her legs and dragged her across the floor. Wright took his girlfriend’s phone away from her and then locked her in a bedroom. While being held captive in that bedroom, the woman said that her boyfriend hit her, kicked her and punched her. The woman informed deputies that Wright also “spit on her and rubbed dog feces on her hair and face, the report said.”
The woman told the deputies that after a while, her boyfriend’s physical assaults subsided and things “calmed down.” When she got her chance, she ran from the apartment she shared with Wright and made her way to the main office of their apartment complex, according to the arrest report.
When deputies arrived on the scene, they could see visibly apparent scrapes on the woman’s arms. The arrest report also stated that the woman took the opportunity to tell deputies about her boyfriend’s previous acts of violence. The woman told deputies “that she thought he was going to kill her.”
