A 66-year-old Clayton County man was found dead in the back yard of a group home and police on Tuesday were trying to determine the cause of his death.

The victim has been identified as Mr. Pelham Arthur of Jonesboro, according to the Clayton County police.

The investigation began around 5:20 p.m. when officers responded to the home in the 9000 block of Whalyes Lake Lane, police spokesman Officer Ron Coloma said.

They found the victim lying face down in the back yard of the incident location with visible injuries to the left side of his face, police spokesman Officer Ron Coloma said.

The victim was transported to the local hospital where he was pronounced deceased, Officer Coloma said.

It’s unclear how long Mr. Arthur has been staying at the group home and police have not released any details on how he was found.

Investigators are waiting for an autopsy to determine the cause and manner of death.
