A 60-year-old man allegedly shot his wife at least twice, killing her, and then waited in the yard of his Dacula home until police arrived.
Mr. Egbert Courtney was charged with aggravated assault, felony murder and possession of a weapon during the commission of a crime, according to Gwinnett County police.
The investigation began around 10:15 a.m. after officers responded to 2656 Kachina Trail and found Mr. Courtney in the front yard.
He was taken into custody as a suspect in the homicide, police spokesman Cpl. Jake Smith said.
Inside the home, officers located Mr. Egbert's wife, Mrs. Sonia Courtney, dead, apparently from gunshot wounds, Cpl. Smith said.
“Detectives determined that the shooting occurred in the wake of a domestic dispute between the suspect and the victim,” Cpl. Smith said.
But investigators decline to say what prompted the shooting or how many times the 58-year-old woman was shot.
Mr. Courtney remained in the Gwinnett County jail Saturday without bond.
