A man was arrested Saturday afternoon after he allegedly shot his wife and daughter inside their Cobb County home.
Clarence Harold Washington, 43, of Austell, was charged with two counts of aggravated assault with intent to commit murder and two counts of aggravated battery, according to Cobb County police. Investigators are still trying to determine what prompted the afternoon shooting.
Around 3:50 p.m., officers responded to 4394 Stonecrest Drive in Austell after neighbors heard gunshots and at least one of them called 911 to report that a person had been shot, police said.
Officers and firefighters arrived at the home to find the woman and her daughter suffering from gunshot wounds, police spokesman Officer Mike Bowman said. He has not released their names or ages, but the two victims are the suspect's wife and daughter, according to media reports.
The woman and child were transported to the hospital where the juvenile underwent surgery, he said. The mother and daughter’s conditions were not known late Saturday. Police also have not released any details on where on the body they were shot.
The suspect had fled the scene but was apprehended a short distance away by officers, Bowman said. Police have not said if they found the weapon used in the shooting and it was also unclear if police had any prior involvement with the family.
Washington was transported to the Cobb County jail where he remained Saturday night.
So far, police have not released any details on the circumstances surrounding the shooting. It’s also unclear where in the home the woman and child were shot.
