A 25-year-old man was killed over the weekend after he drove off the roadway and struck a tree in Monroe County.
And investigators on Monday said they are still trying to determine what caused the single-vehicle wreck that killed the Lizella man.
It’s unclear exactly when the wreck happened, but deputies were dispatched at 5:43 a.m. to 498 Russellville Road, according to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Department.
They found a black GMC Sonoma pickup truck that had driven off the roadway and struck a tree, the sheriff’s spokeswoman Mrs. Allison Selman-Willis said.
The driver, who was wearing a seatbelt, was already dead when they arrived. They have identified him as Mr. Jeffrey Brannen Croft, Jr., Mrs. Selman-Willis said.
It’s unclear if anyone witnessed the single-vehicle wreck. Deputies said the investigation continues into what caused the 25-year-old man to lose control.
Anyone with information on the deadly wreck is asked to call the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office at (478) 994-7043.
