A man was struck and killed Saturday morning on I-285 after he stepped out of the vehicle he was riding in and into the middle of traffic in Sandy Springs.

Police have identified the victim who died at the scene as Mr. Devon Baxley, 24, of Marietta. But they have not yet determined why he stepped out of the vehicle. Still, they have charged the driver of the vehicle he was in with driving under the influence, according to Sandy Springs police.

Ms. Sara Anderson, 30, of Grayson, was being held at the Fulton County jail, police spokeswoman Sgt. Forrest Bohannon said.

The incident happened around 4:30 a.m. on I-285 west at New Northside Drive, police said.

“Baxley was killed when he exited the vehicle that he was a passenger of on I-285 and was struck by another vehicle,” Sgt. Bohannon said.

Three lanes of I-285 were closed for several hours while officers investigated the incident.

The driver of the vehicle that struck Mr. Baxley was not charged, police said.
