An alleged 24-year-old drunk driver was arrested early Friday morning after police said he struck and killed a 58-year-old man on a scooter in DeKalb County.
Mr. Kevin Lach was driving under the influence when the wreck happened around 2 a.m. on East Ponce De Leon Avenue in Stone Mountain, according to DeKalb County police.
Mr. Lach was heading west on East Ponce De Leon when he crossed over the center lane and struck a scooter head-on that was heading east, police spokesman Capt. Stephen Fore said.
The man on the scooter, Mr. Nathaniel Hollins, died at the scene, Capt. Fore said. Mr. Lach also struck another vehicle, but no one else was injured, he said.
Mr. Lach was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, first-degree vehicular homicide and failure to maintain lane, Capt. Fore said.
Police have not said what evidence they have to charge him with DUI. He was released from the DeKalb County jail Saturday after paying a bond of $11,500, according to booking records.
