A 24-year-old man has been arrested in the shooting of an Alabama man whose body was found inside a vehicle off a DeKalb County road early Thursday morning.

Joseph Arnold was charged with murder in the shooting, which happened in the neighborhood where he lived off Glenwood Road, according to DeKalb County police.

The DeKalb County Medical Examiner’s Office has identified the victim as 27-year-old Gerrard Osborne. Police said he was only in town visiting before returning to Alabama where he lived with his mother. But it’s unclear who he was visiting and if the person lived in the neighborhood where he was killed.

The shooting happened around 4 a.m. in the 3500 block of Misty Valley Road, police said. Officers arrived at the location to find Osborne dead inside a vehicle, which had ended up in a ditch on the side of the road, police spokesman Capt. Stephen Fore said. The Alabama man had been shot multiple times, Fore said.

Investigators said Arnold was outside along with several other people when Osborne showed up in the area. He and the suspect got into an argument and police said Arnold allegedly pulled out a weapon and fired into the vehicle, striking the victim several times. It’s unclear what the argument was about, but police said the two men were acquaintances.

Arnold was apprehended at the scene and taken into the police station for questioning along with the witnesses who were at the scene, Fore said. Arnold, of Misty Valley Road, was charged late Thursday afternoon and transported to the DeKalb County jail, the spokesman said. He did not know if investigators were able to seize the murder weapon.
