Two men are wanted in the deadly shooting of a 23-year-old father who police believe was targeted.
But they decline to comment on why they believe the man was killed or say how the suspects entered the Austell home where Mr. Justin Mitchell lived with his girlfriend and their 3-year-old child.
It’s also unclear if the child witnessed the shooting, which police said happened Wednesday night at 1556 Pine Circle.
But the man’s girlfriend witnessed her child’s father being shot and called 911 at 10:18 p.m., according to Cobb County police.
By the time they arrived Mr. Mitchell was already dead from an apparent gunshot wound, police spokesman Sgt. Dana Pierce said.
“This is not considered to be a random act,” Sgt. Pierce said. The men did not harm the woman, he said.
Still, police have released few details on the circumstances of the shooting.
One of the suspects, the gunman, is described as a dark-skinned black man, between 5 feet, 6 inches and 5 feet, 9 inches tall with a thin build. The man was between 20 and 23 years old and was wearing a gray sweater, dark pants and black beanie hat.
The second suspect is described as a medium-skinned black man between 5 feet, 4 inches and 5 feet, 6 inches tall. He was wearing a multi-colored beanie hat and a navy blue bandanna, which covered his face.
Anyone with information about this homicide is asked to call Cobb County police at (770) 499-3945.
