A 22-year-old man was charged Thursday after allegedly attempting to kill a man over a woman in Sumter.
Mr. Timothy Wilson is accused of shooting Mr. Quinton Roach, 22, in the head, in the 100 block of Carolina Avenue on Wednesday, Sumter police said.
"Detectives indicate that Wilson and Road had been in an ongoing dispute over a female acquaintance," Deputy Chief Mr. Alvin Holston said Thursday.
The shooting happened around 4:45 p.m. when Mr. Roach and the woman stopped by a mutual friend's home and found Mr. Wilson there.
"Wilson presented a handgun and fired several shots at Roach who was sitting in a vehicle in front of the residence," Deputy Chief Holston said.
"Roach was grazed in the head by a bullet in the incident," he said. "Fortunately, it exited his scalp without becoming a life-threatening injury."
Mr. Roach's girlfriend took him to Tuomey Regional Medical Center where he was treated and released, Deputy Chief Holston said.
Mr. Wilson, who fled the scene, was apprehended a few blocks away after a brief foot chase.
He allegedly told detectives where to find the 9mm semi-automatic pistol used in the shooting, Deputy Chief Holston said.
Mr. Wilson was charged with attempted murder, possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime and possession of a stolen pistol.
