A 21-year-old man was arrested Wednesday in connection with a triple shooting that left one dead and two injured last week in DeKalb County.

Johnie Oliver was charged with murder and two counts of aggravated assault in the shootout that happened last Friday on Swift Creek Drive in Lithonia, according to the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office.

For four days deputies have been pursuing Oliver, a man they considered armed and dangerous, the sheriff’s spokeswoman Cynthia Williams said. He was arrested without incident and transported to the DeKalb County jail, Williams said.

Rayonte Weems, 23, of Lithonia died after being shot multiple times in the shootout, which happened shortly after midnight on the side street near Deshon Road, according to DeKalb County police.

The investigation began at 12:15 a.m. when officers responded to DeKalb Medical Center-Hillandale after getting a report of three person shot, police spokeswoman Mekka Parish has said. Officers arrived at the hospital to find two men and one woman with gunshot wounds, Parish said.

Both men, 23 and 27, were shot multiple times, Parish said. They were transported to Grady Memorial Hospital where Weems died, officials said.

The unidentified woman received non-life threatening injury and was the one who drove the wounded men to the hospital, police said. She was transferred to Atlanta Medical Center, police said.

Investigators said the three were in a vehicle on a side street off South Deshon Road when they were flagged down by a man who approached the vehicle. The man got into an argument with the occupants of the vehicle and began firing shots into the vehicle, Parish has said. The shooter then fled.

Sheriff’s investigators on Thursday said the incident was a shootout. But it’s unclear if all three were involved in the shootout. It’s also unclear what motivated the shooting.
