Mammut Dobson Pant review

The corn snow condition that come with late winter and spring skiing adds a challenge to a sun-filled slope day. The repetitive thawing and freezing gives a nice crusty cover for first tracks.

You’ll get some added pole plants going through the flats and working your way to the lift after your run, but the soft midday snow makes the moguls forgiving and still fun.

The Mammut Dobson Pant is equally forgiving with an adjustable waist giving a relaxed fit. The Dobson might have a forgiving Gen-X fit but it’s unrelenting to water. The two-layer laminated fabric is advertised as waterproof. Mammut adds stretchy gaiters and protection from you with an edge resistant material where it’s needed.

Two vented zips flank each hamstring for insta-cooling, and four spacey pockets are on the front of the pants. The pockets are deep enough for a flash preferably filled with Jack Daniels or another top-shelf whiskey. Don’t pollute your Dobson Pant with a flask of Southern Comfort unless you drive an ’86 Camaro with a roach clip attached to the rear view mirror.

the Dobson Pant keep to Mammut’s more than 150-year tradition for top-end quality. Water, not allowed. Wind, kept out. The Dobson Pant stayed unblemished after face-planting while putting style before substance through sidecountry glades.

The Mammut Dobson Pant dons a baggier fit but stays on your boney-butt. Go a size larger to really get a baggy feel. Equipped with belt loops, the pant will not fall off right in the middle of raiding a rail or catching your edges on a grind box.

Get in your end-of-season fun despite the conditions. Once the corn snow and the last of the base is gone, it’s a six-month wait until you can do it again. (MSRP $249)
