A newly engaged couple already has so much to worry about when it comes to getting married and planning a wedding, but an already tense situation can become ten times worst when the parents of the couple, more specifically the mother of the bride-to-be, is being openly hateful and disapproving of your union. Kandi Buruss & now husband of Bravo TV's Real Housewives of Atlanta are facing this ongoing problem even after their nuptials. On Monday, April 7 Centric TV reported that Kandi's mother, "Mama Joyce" is still confessing her discontent for her daughter's relationship even after the two have already tied the knot.
It was on Friday of last week that Kandi Burrus said "I do" to fiancee Todd Tucker. Family, friends and some cast mates of the RHOA were present for the big day, and even those who never wanted that day to come at all, Kandi's mother Joyce was also present. To watch the RHOA and the many hoops that Kandi had to jump through in an attempt to get her mother to respect and provide her blessing for their relationship was at times difficult to watch for some viewers. Everything from planned dinners, therapy/counseling sessions, and other tactics were used by Kandi and Todd to try to find a middle ground between these three, so the marriage could go on as planned.
Well, the marriage did happen and in true Mama Joyce fashion, she was not at all happy for her daughter. During an interview with Too Fab she expresses how she still feels about the pair.
"Long as SHE's happy, that's the one that has to be happy," she adds. "Doesn't make no difference if I'm happy or not, she's the one that has to live with him. I did everything I could do. If she's jumping in the river with sharks, she's gonna get chewed up."
Ouch!!! Referring to your new son in law as a shark is pretty hurtful. But Mama Joyce explains why she feels this way.
"I got a little pissed at the bridegroom the night before this wedding," Joyce reveals to Too Fab. "He kind of held up on signing the prenup and didn't come to the rehearsal dinner because he didn't want to sign it." She went on to talk about the part that Todd's mother played in him not wanting to sign the prenup.
"His mom said she didn't see no reason for him to have to sign because they were in love. He was the one who didn't have a damn thing, but that's another story," she says. "But from what I understand, he did sign."
Poor Kandi. So much negativity coming from her mother during what's supposed to be a happy time. But at least Mama Joyce acknowledges the fact that her daughter really does "look" happy for right now even though she may not carry that look with her forever if she stays with Todd.
"It's not about me, whether I'm right or wrong," she continues. "People show you their best when you're dating them, so if she's seeing the best now, the worst is yet to come. She went on to say"... she looks very happy. I'm happy that she's happy and I hope that she continues to be happy. I hope she's always as happy as she was last night,'" reveals Joyce.
