Makeup artist Mally Roncal's sparkling personality steals the show no matter where she is, be it pitching her beauty line to the masses on QVC, or working her artistry on one of her famous clients.
Not only fun to watch, Roncal's natural joyfulness is contagious, visibly surrounding everyone she touches with a radiant glow. It's no surprise that her magnetic charisma has catapulted her to the top of the beauty industry, inspiring women everywhere to follow her lead and empower themselves through makeup.
A regular fixture backstage at Tracey Reese every New York Fashion Week, Roncal announced in December that she was offering a two part contest for two “Mallynistas” to join her for the designer’s Fall 2012 show at Lincoln center.
To participate, log on to Mally TV Productions on YouTube to comment on final contestant videos, and make one lucky budding makeup artist’s dreams come true. The winner will assist Roncal backstage at Tracey Reese’s Fall 2012 fashion show. Commenters will automatically be entered to win a trip to New York City, and a coveted ticket to watch the Tracey Reese runway presentation in February.
Since phase one of the contest is well under way, The Examiner decided to take this opportunity to have a chat with the founder of Mally Beauty, get a glimpse into her amazing life, and perhaps, find out what inspired this stroke of generosity.
The Examiner: You were Pre-med, but you were also working in the “industry” with stylists and other artists. Can you describe the exact ah-ha moment when you crossed over and became determined to pursue beauty full on as a career?
Mally: I was working with this AMAZOIS fashion designer named Kalinka. While I loved every minute of it, and learned so much from working with her-- my heart really flew when Fashion Week would roll around. I absolutely LOVED when the makeup and hair teams would come in, and the whole look would come together. My whole life, I loved makeup-- I would put it on everything and anything I could! But, it wasn't until I started working in the industry that I really realized I could make a career out of my passion and love for beauty!
The Examiner: You have the uncanny ability to make everyone you touch feel like the most beautiful person in the world. What’s your secret? How do you channel your positivity so effectively?
Mally: It was instilled in me at a very young age that every person is special and beautiful. My beautiful Mother, the late Dr. Pilar Roncal, believed that everyone deserved to be treated like a superstar. I live every day of my life to fulfill this message. I am honored and blessed to have my family of Mallynistas who surround me with love and positivity. It's only right that I give them the same thing back!
The Examiner: What are three of your favorite things (not beauty related)?
Mally: My family & dogs-- G-Boy and Bingka, Starbucks and Yoga
The Examiner: Do you feel you have faced any unique obstacles in your career?
Mally: I was told early on in my career that I needed to be more of a "moody artist" to be taken seriously. I was told I was "too happy, too bubbly, my hair was too big, I wore too much makeup", and so on... It took [much] soul searching to come to the realization that we have to accept who we are, embrace it, and [by doing so,] we will fly!
The Examiner: What product is your must have for spring?
Mally: My must-have product for spring is my Mally Beauty Face Defender! I am proud to say that this is the world's first EVER clear powder!! It sets your makeup and reduces shine, just like a traditional translucent powder is supposed to do-- without any of those nasty side effects. It won't make you look ghostly, dry, cracky, cakey, or funky! This product delivers that amazois satiny-matte finish that is all over the runways!!
It’s not too late to enter! All competition winners will be notified and announced via Facebook, YouTube and Twitter on January 26, 2012.
