Malibu Grand Prix is located in Redwood City, CA (NOT Malibu, CA) and is visible to those driving on 101 passing by Redwood City. It is also not located where you’d imagine a mini amusement park should be. Even on a nice sunny day, there is gusty wind that will blow dust all over the place from the nearby industrial parks.
Coming here at noon on a Thursday was comparable to walking in the middle of a desert; empty, quiet, with that feeling like you’re stranded. Nobody was racing at the Go Kart tracks at this moment. Let alone, no one was working to let customers race. But then it made sense that not many people would come on an early Thursday as everyone else has a life at school or work. Night time might be better. Also, don’t forget your driver’s license or else you can’t be a qualified driver. On any days you come the first hour it opens, there is an early bird special. You’ll pay $3 per lap instead of $4. The same goes for their mini golf course; come early at the first hour, pay only $3.50 per person.
Bumper Boats was a bit pricey for a five minute ride. Please bring extra clothes if you don’t like getting wet. You won’t fall into the 3-feet-deep pool but you’ll be getting hosed down by another person’s squirt gun, which is installed onto each bumper boat.
The Thursday crowd may have been meager, but the majority of the people who came all paid to go to the batting cages. You can pay $2 to bat 15 balls. This is perfect for those who need to practice their baseball batting skills.
It seems very busy here on weekends, and that is probably the best time to come if you want that “crowded” amusement park feeling. There is also better luck at night times on weekdays. Oh and of course, just as any other amusement parks, it has many arcade games.
