"Maleficent" trailer No. 2 has been released by Disney now. Angelina Jolie and Lana Del Rey star in the second "Maleficent" trailer, but in much different ways. As noted in a report from Monday (Jan. 27), behind the 90-second trailer is a hauntingly beautiful cover of "Once Upon a Dream" being performed by Lana Del Rey. The song is from the original 1959 Disney animated classic, but this time it is slowed way down and turned into an almost dark interpretation of the song.
The star of this film is Angelina Jolie, even though the star of the original story is princess Aurora. That "Sleeping Beauty" role is played by Elle Fanning this time around, but it has been clear from the start that Jolie is in this movie to steal the screen. Much like "Wicked" showed a new side of Oz, it appears that this film is about to show a much more involved story about how Maleficent became this way. Already considered one of the darker characters in the Disney vault, many film-goers are interested to see just how Jolie pulls off this role.
While the movie doesn't come out till May 30, this new "Maleficent" trailer is definitely going to create a lot of extra buzz about the film. Even those viewers that hadn't seen the first teaser for the film are talking about it now, especially with the help of Lana Del Rey and the re-imagined version of "Once Upon a Dream" backing it up. It might not even be too early to suggest that this song could find itself nominated for an award or two when the next awards season comes around.
