Malaysia Airlines oil slicks: 2 oil slicks spotted in ocean, crews rush to scene

Malaysia Airlines says that oil slicks are being investigated now more than 24 hours after one of their airliners went missing. On March 8, KATU reported that search and rescue planes saw the oil slicks in the waters off the coast of Vietnam. This news has been circulating for much of the day today without any official confirmation on whether or not authorities believe that the aircraft went down in this area.

"There was no confirmation that the slicks were related to the missing plane, but the statement said they were consistent with the kinds that would be produced by the two fuel tanks of a crashed jetliner," reports KATU.

Malaysia Airlines' report of oil slicks is really the only thing that the public has to go on at this point. There have not been any other references made to where the aircraft might be. Families are understandably very worried and some are beginning to get frustrated at this point -- many just want the plane to be located.

As previously reported, there are some premature signs that the plane might have been hijacked. Word that two passengers couldn't board the flight because their passports had "gone missing" raised serious security concerns. When asked about this possibility, Malaysian Director General of Civil Aviation, Azharuddin Abdul Rahman said that they are not ruling anything out at this time.

If the oil slicks were from Malaysia Airlines flight MH370, many fear that the plane and all of its passengers is deep beneath the ocean's surface, more than likely without any survivors.
