Maksim Chmerkovskiy got a beating from Dancing With the Stars guest judge Julianne Hough on Monday night when she basically called him out in front of millions of Americans. The majority of viewers agree that the comments were not very constructive and Hough was way too personal in her feedback. Less than 24-hours have passed and the professional dancers are speaking out about the incident and siding with Maksim Chmerkovskiy. According to the Today Show on Tuesday, the exchange between Maks and Julianne made good television.
Sharna Burgess sided with Maks and reflected on the difficulty it was for the pro dancer to switch partners in the first place. Apparently it’s hard to get used to a new partner in less than a week.
“All Maks did was be there for Danica to make sure she was getting through their routine,” said Sharna Burgess about his performance. “That’s what we do. It was really an unfair thing to say.”
Another professional dancer who said the comments were not necessary was Cheryl Burke. The dancer seemed a bit put off that Julianne Hough was so personal.
“It was a little bit inappropriate,” said Cheryl Burke about the situation. “He knows he’s going back to Meryl next week. It was kind of like, ‘What just happened?’”
The fans were wondering what Julianne Hough was thinking on Monday night. It seemed that her lack of confidence behind the judge’s table offered up a chance to take pot shots at other professional dancers. Everyone knows that Maksim Chmerkovskiy is passionate about his dancing. He was an easy target and it looked like she tried to get him to respond negatively. And when he didn't lash out, that was news too.
Perhaps Julianne Hough loves publicity. Remember who dressed up offensively for Halloween and then she acted surprised that her costume was inappropriate? Yes, negative publicity still grabs headlines, but on Monday night it tainted the ballroom. Julianne’s comments weren't very constructive and that’s really too bad as she is a talented dancer who could have offered the celebrities some great tips.
