Earlier in the week, Maksim Chmerkovskiy sent out a message on his Instagram saying that his dance with partner Meryl Davis this week will be historic and will blow your mind. Was it as special as he claimed it to be? E! News had the details on Monday on week eight of “Dancing with the Stars.” The night brought with it some surprises and some drama from an outspoken guest judge, Abby Lee Miller from “Dance Moms.”
Meryl and Maks danced an emotional rumba together and it had everyone captivated. Tom Bergeron mentioned that you could hear a pin drop as the audience took in the two throwing each other around. The beginning of the dance had dishes being tossed and even had Meryl Davis slapping her partner. They turned it into one memorable dance of the night that earned them 36 points from the judges.
However, it wasn't all peaches and cream for the couple. Even though the three main judges said that they loved their dance, despite not having as much rumba as they would have liked, it was the guest judge that got into trouble with Maksim Chmerkovskiy this week. The pro dancer didn't take her critiquing too well when the "Dance Moms" star mentioned Meryl’s feet. Miller said that while the Olympic Gold medalist was on the floor, her feet were not angled correctly.
Afterwards as the dancers were being interviewed by Erin Andrews, the Ukrainian said, "I really don't care for anything she has to say." He sure is straight to the point. No one messes with his Meryl and gets by with it! Of course, this brought on some uncomfortable looks from the other dancers and the judges. Abby Lee Miller might not have been too affected by his comment, except that she only gave the couple an eight for their rumba.
The pair also danced the Celebrity Dance Duel with brother, Val Chmerkovskiy and his partner Danica McKellar. They did the samba, but it was a little out of sync. The criticism from the three main judges were understandable, but then Miller decided to mention that the girls should have been in heels instead of the shoes they wore. She was also quite critical of Danica’s performance. This got the younger Chmerkovskiy defending his lady as well.
Not all was bad, though. During rehearsals, Meryl teased her partner by saying, "Just because a teddy bear is large doesn't mean he's scary." How sweet is that? She seems to be able to tame the beast, which just adds to the extreme chemistry between those two. Maks even mentioned that he wants to maintain what they have outside of the show when the season ends. Of course, no one knows exactly what they have, but whatever it is, viewers love it! In case you missed it, you can watch their 'mind blowing' rumba here.
What did you think of Meryl Davis and Maksim Chmerkovskiy’s rumba? Do you think it was historic enough to win that mirror ball trophy?
