Get ready for some extra sizzle on the dance floor. Professional dancer Maksim Chmerkovskiy is slated to make a return to the “Dancing with the Stars” ballroom, according to a Feb, 27 report by Us Weekly. The return will mark the Ukrainian hunk’s 15th season on the show, following a two season hiatus.
Chmerkovskiy has been vocal about his frustration over some of the non-ballroom dance styles that have cropped up on the show in recent years, and in 2012 he slammed the show’s “politics.”
On his blog for TV Guide he wrote, “This show has become so much more about politics. It's about how much media coverage each couple has and now we have paparazzi camping out of the studio, which is ridiculous.”
The 34-year old dancer was actually one half of a couple that got a lot of media coverage. Back in Season 10, Chmerkovskiy and partner Erin Andrews made headlines for their flirty relationship, but the duo kept fans guessing about an off-camera romance.
At the time, he told E! News!, “I think we showed partnership beyond just the show. I've apologized to our fans because romance or not, they will probably never know because I'm a private person… What Erin and I had is between me and Erin.”
Interestingly, Andrews will also make a return to “Dancing With the Stars” this season. Earlier this week, Us Weekly revealed that the Fox Sports reporter would replace Brooke Burke-Charvet as co-host on the new season of the show.
“Dancing with the Stars” premieres on Monday, March 17 at 8 p.m. on ABC.
