Maksim Chmerkovskiy wishes that the producers hadn't decided to change "Dancing with the Stars." As reported by OK! Magazine on Thursday, May 8, the pro dancer admitted that he does not like the current one-show-a-week format. Speaking to the press after the latest episode, Maks said that the fact that dancers only have one chance a week to prove themselves is not encouraging. He believes that the show's producers should take into account what viewers want to see more.
This is the first season that Maks, who left the show for a year, is working under the one-show-a-week format. Previously, the show had two shows a week, comprised of one live performances show and one results show. Now, one couple is immediately eliminated after the live performances.
Maks is curious to hear whether the show's fans prefer the old or new format. "We never really get to hear (from) the viewers or what they thought...The one day a week thing, meaning that today’s score is what’s going to decide if we make the finals. That’s a little disheartening but I would love to hear what the viewers think," he said.
Maks also seemed to say that he wants more viewer participation in general. He said that he's not satisfied with just "put[ting] up fluffy choreography just to please four people in the room." It seems that he wants more viewer feedback than just votes.
Maks also denied that he argued with Danica McKellar, who was just voted off the show with her pro partner Val Chmerkovskiy. Despite seeming to have a disagreement with Danica, his and Meryl Davis' Dance Duel teammate, during rehearsals, Maks said that they were actually just having fun together. He joked that his humor can bring people to tears sometimes.
While Maksim Chmerkovskiy had no problem with Danica McKellar, he definitely had one with guest judge Abby Lee Miller. After receiving a low score from the controversial "Dance Moms" star for his rumba because of what she said was bad footwork on Meryl's part, Maks pointedly told host Erin Andrews that he doesn't care for anything that Abby has to say.
