What should you aim for with your green New Years resolution? It's overwhelming, isn't it? After all, one person can't possibly fix everything. How can you feel a sense of accomplishment when so much is wrong? This planet is a huge mess. Issues include global warming, depleted resources, waste, hunger, thirst and corporate greed. Where should we begin? On the other hand, we did get to where we are one mistake at a time. How do we correct those mistakes on a personally satisfying level?
Keep it simple.
Remember, complicated lifestyles are what got us here in the first place. Making elaborate plans involving your green lifestyle resolution might do more harm than good. It also makes your plan that much harder to follow. So, buy less, use less and waste less. Keep it simple, because, when it comes to saving the earth, less really is more.
Pay attention to where your food comes from.
Factory farming causes numerous environmental issues. In fact, it's impact on global warming is greater than that of carbon emissions. Want your resolution to have a big impact too? Avoid eating factory farmed food of all kinds. You don't have to be a vegetarian to do this. Just patronize farmers who use humane and environmentally sound practices. Better yet, grow / raise your own.
Send a clear message.
We live in a profit motivated society. Your green New Years resolution should include boycotting companies who produce products that harm the environment. Make it non-profitable for them to continue harmful practices. Of course, you don't know every company that well. Do a little research to unearth the bad guys.
Insert your own green cause here.
There are so many factors impacting our environment, it might be hard to make a difference on every issue. That's why some activists (and just plain folks) choose one main issue to concentrate on. As for the rest, they make a conscious effort to lessen their impact on the planet. So when it comes to your New Years resolution to save the planet, keeping it simple and personally relevant is often the best idea.
