Making the holidays bearable for kids: The ABC2 Campaign

One of the more important messages of the holiday season that resonnates with the community is the importance of giving and thinking of the condition and well-being of others.  If this is the case and something that makes the community stronger, then the partnership between the Northeast Georgia Area Alpha Men and LEAD Foundation, Inc. is a way in order to make this idea a reality, especially in regards to the lives of young people.

Their current service initiative, the ABC2 (Alpha Bear Companion Club) is taking place now through December 22nd.  The focus of the campaign is to collect and purchase new teddy bears and stuffed animals.  Deliveries are scheduled during the holiday season to provide a sense of holiday cheer to children who are currently in the metro-Atlanta childrens’ hospitals in Gwinnett County (the childrens hospital provides outpatient services only) and the immediate area.

On December 10th, the organizations are scheduled to make their first delivery to Egleston Childrens Hospital and the Gwinnett Medical Center Childrens Hospital (outpatient services).  On December 23rd from 2-3pm, both organizations will have their next delivery at Hughes-Spalding Childrens Hospital (in the lobby and community room).

Those interested in supporting may drop off their new stuffed animals at the following partner schools:  Pinckneyville and Summerour MS (Norcross), Sweetwater MS (Lawrenceville), and Snellville MS (Snellville).  Business sponsors and drop-off points include Huddle House (at Hwy 124 and Centerville-Rosebud Road), Aeropostale, Wal-Mart, Target, Toys-R-US, and Build-A-Bear.  Additional supporters include Redemptive Life Christian Fellowship Church (Conyers, GA), Main Street Restaurant (Snellville, GA), Lee Consulting Company (Snellville, GA), Mr. and Ms. Greek ATL, The Black Ice Effect (December 2nd social event hosted by the Alphas of Atlanta at Amai Lounge [180 Northside Drive in Atlanta]), Jennifer Franks’ 30th Birthday Celebration and Holiday Soire’ (December 9th at the Cascade Club [2890 Continental Colony in Atlanta]) and the Holiday Happy Hour (December 22nd at Marlowe’s Tavern in Duluth (1950 Satellite Blvd).

Donations are also accepted a the foundation's website on-line and scrolling to the ABC2 icon.  To receive more information, you may contact coordinators Chris Banks (404-942-8156) or Joe Lee (404-754-2865).

"We wanted to do something to help provide kids who are dealing with health issues, as well as their families, some level of holiday cheer", notes coordinator Chris Banks.  Fellow coordinator Joe Lee adds, "Teaming up with the LEAD Foundation, Inc. made perfect sense; it allows the kids, parents, and others in the community to get involved to help make the holidays a great time for all".

Giving back, as well as giving of your time and talents, is a message that is not only apparant during the holiday season, but during the entire year.
