Making goals to get ahead

Be careful what you write down - it will come true!

Make your own map

By setting goals for yourself based on the values outlined in your personal or business mission statement you will be laying down an clearly defind path for yourself.

Franklin Covey determines four steps for success:

• Identify who you are, what you value most, and what you want to do with your life (Mission).
• Set goals that coincide with your values and create a time frame for achieving them (Goals).
• Weekly plans serve as your road map.
• Plan daily to achieve your highest priorities.

Plan your route

Organize your goals by time:

1. Short term, Medium Term, Long Term

Or be more specific:

2. 1 month, 3 months, 1 year, etc.

You can further break down the goals in various ways:

1. By the four "bodies" in which we inhabit (Mental, Physical, Emotional, Spiritual)

2. By your roles (teacher, husband, boss, mother, self, etc.)

3. By work, personal, play, etc.

4. Any other way you divide your life

Appreciate the journey

At regular intervals assess and reassess your success and your remaining goals. Make sure you acknowledge and express gratitude for your achievements. But if you have fallen down in some areas don't beat yourself up - get up instead! Write about what went wrong (or reframe it to see the positive in the "failure") and move on. Make new goals or maybe even trace a new path. There are many different ways to get through the woods.
