I’m a frugal person, so once a month, Amy and I sit down and talk about how we can save money. We come up with the normal ideas like eating out less or buying less frivolous things, but recently Amy suggested something that I never knew was possible. That suggestion was to make our own laundry detergent. Apparently it’s in right now, and a lot of people are desiring homemade laundry detergent. Besides it looking like you are buying ingredients for a meth lab, it is cheaper than buying it already made at the store.
This peaked my interest, and when there is a new trend it usually gets picked up on eBay. There is a market for this, and there are not that many sellers (yet).
So how do you make Homemade Laundry Detergent? It’s easy, really.
You are going to need a few items from the store to get started. The ingredients consist of -
55 oz box of Arm & Hammer Super Washing Soda
76 oz box of Borax
Any 10 pack of Bar Soap
To make a batch, all you need to do is:
Shave one bar of soap
Add one cup of Borax
Add one cup of Arm & Hammer Super Washing Soda
Stir for about 3-4 minutes
Each batch is about 32-64 loads, so you can make more in each batch if you want to sell a larger amount. This is estimated to save you around $.25 a load! Now you have your own homemade laundry detergent, and you are ready to sell it on eBay. You want to make sure that you are fancying it up with some type of packaging to put it in. I’ve seen some sellers put it in an empty cottage cheese container, and it doesn’t sell. People want it to look pretty, so wrapping it with a ribbon or putting it in a fancy container will help your item stand out.
You should get creative on how to market these on eBay. They would make great gifts, so even adding a “to and from” tag may be appropriate. Like I stated before, there are not a lot of seller on eBay yet, so now is the time to jump on board if you are wanting to get into this niche.
