Since the hand-held creation of the video camera, home movies, short films and even music videos have been possible to make by your average joe. Cisco Castille, a Charlottesville rapper decided to test this concept on his own. American Nightmare is a good example of his work. The close ups and editing for this video do not look like a typical ‘joe’ production. The actors look relaxed and the angles for the video are intriguing.
“Me and various friends between Trinidad, [and] Charlottesville, VA, and here in the DMV, [shot the video], nothing professional, with camcorders,” Castille explains.
With five EP’s released, Castille is hoping to launch a full-on musical career. “[I want] To make modern classic pop music, from urban to world, to rock music. I'm not the best singer/rapper, so I shoot to overcompensate with killer music,” says Castille.
While Castille has only performed once in the past year in the DC metro area at the 2nd annual WMIFF, he hopes to make in-roads in the market.
“I've tried to find a local DMV rock group that I can front, [and] can re-play the instrumentals, [but] most of the bands I [have] talked to locally, even if they did like my voice and wanted me to try out for their lead singer, refused to try and play it cause' they said they loved it, but it was too hard, LOL!”
With few live performances booked and CD sales down, the light at the end of the tunnel for this rapper lies in his video work.
“My video concepts are (I co-direct/script all the videos I'm in), to make them fun, interesting, something constantly in motion in each frame, to throw a surprise in each one, keep viewers watching with something unpredictable, [and] every once in awhile showing something never seen onscreen before, exciting,” says Castille.
