We’ve all applied makeup in a rush, on the train or gasp, in the car. Inevitably, when pressed for time, one of the cosmetics is forgotten at home, lost under a seat or dropped and broken during the haste to look beautiful for work or any other event. L’Oréal Paris has followed the lead taken by Benefits, the makeup brand which launched cosmetic vending machines at three airports this summer with more to come this fall.
The L’Oréal Paris Intelligent Color Experience is located near the 5th Avenue and 42nd Street entrance of the Bryant Park subway station, one of New York City’s largest hubs. The popup is scheduled to open on Monday, November 4 and will remain at the location until December 30. Too bad as New Year’s Eve could bring tons of revenue.
For the first two weeks, representatives from L’Oréal Paris will be on location at the makeup vending machine to offer customer assistance. Ladies, or men, stand in front of the digital screen/mirror and hidden cameras and sensors will determine what the customer is wearing, ask if they want complementary colors and then suggest the proper makeup. The user can either purchase the L’Oréal products on the spot or have the recommendations emailed for the future, which has the potential to be an affordable option for those makeup wearers that never seem to choose the correct color, rather than heading to a makeup counter.
L’Oréal Paris calls the makeup vending machine “the first-ever intelligent shopping experience.”
