On trend makeup for Spring 2012 is all about bold, statement lips, glowing complexions and thick, almost boyish brows reminiscent of the 80’s. Makeup from last night’s Golden Globes demonstrated styles reflective of the sixties-era with a modern twist and healthy skin that mimics an athletic glow, just as we saw on the runways of Mercedes Benz Spring Fashion week this past September.
Kate Beckingsale looked gorgeous with the evening’s best illustration of a glowy complexion with shimmery peach blush and gold and brown shadows that accented her hazel eyes, completing the look with glossy nude lips for a natural and glamorous face.
To achieve this look at home try combining illuminating products for highlighting and bronzer for contouring to mimic the effects of being out in the sun.
Remember to apply highlighter to areas that naturally catch light such as:
1: Top of cheekbones
2: Down the center of your nose to give a slimmer appearance
3: Browbone and the inner corners of your eyes
4: Dip of your cupid's bow
5: Along the high points of collarbone
Bronzer should be applied after blush (proper order: highlighter, blush then bronzer) Bronzer should be applied to areas that naturally catch the sun (Starting at the temple, think of sweeping the brush in the shape of a backwards three)
Zoey Dechanel totally rocked the look of 60's glamour with doll lashes and understated makeup - definitely one of my favorites of the evening!
Michele Williams delivered not only a touching acceptance speech for her role in “My Week with Marilyn”, but looked ethereal with spidery lashes and silver metallic shadow combined with soft pink cheeks and lips.
Nicole Richie, who normally goes for the bohemian look, mixed it up for the Golden Globes with an architectural ponytail that combined modern and retro influences and a silver Julien Macdonald dress and soft brown shadows for a simply beautiful appearance.
I am completely obsessed with Emma Stone and did she deliver last night! Wearing a stunning plum Lanvin gown with a twist on the traditional smokey eye, Emma skipped the usual shades of gray and black and opted for pewter and gunmetal shades with rose colored lips to win my pick of the evening.
Glee’s Lea Michele, looked beautiful with my favorite nude lip of the evening, worn matte instead of glossy for a more modern look. To get this look try Lancome L’Absolu Rouge in Rich Cashmere
Charlize Theron, one of the most beautiful women in Hollywood, wore a vintage Cartier diamond headband and nude makeup for a simple and elegant look. Another one of my picks for best dressed of the evening.
Claire Danes looked flawless with the perfect red lip created with multiple layers of Laura Mercier Crème Lip Colour in Seduction.
As usual, Angelina stands out from the crowd with a simple and elegant hairstyle paired with bold red lips – a great example of the trend to combine modern and vintage. Combining red lips with a smoky eye is a tough look to pull off so reserve for evening and special events.
Red lips continue to be a big trend for Spring 2012 but finding the correct shade of red can be challenging.
Here are a few guidelines to help you select the shade that best suits your skin tone:
Fair Skin: Coral based reds add a pop of color without being too severe for fair complexions
Medium skin: true red to cranberry shades compliment gold undertones found in medium skin
Dark Skin: Burgundy/wine shades or warm brick shades work best on dark skin as bright shades can look to harsh
