Makeup is an art form that some have mastered, and others -- well, they're still working on perfecting their skills.

Glendale makeup artist Giovanissa De Luca, or "Jo" as her clients and friends call her, is one of the few that has taken the term "practice makes perfect" literally and spreads her fabulousity onto others. The Makeup by Giovanissa artist gets inspiration from the client and transforms a person's natural beauty to something that some clients can't even believe.

"To me, everyone's face is like a beautiful picture frame," says Giovanissa. "When you see a beautiful picture frame you can see the vision of what picture you would like to place inside."

That inspiration drives Giovanissa to transform her clients, not only aesthetically, but also with their self-confidence. She loves to make everyone feel beautiful and glamorous.

For those practicing to perfect their art form, Giovanissa does hear about many misconceptions about makeup. She says that many feel that when getting their makeup done, they will end up with a cakey look or one that doesn't cover their imperfections.Giovanissa says that every makeup artist has their own technique and it is important to talk to the artist and fully understand what looks they specialize in. When you walk into a makeup session with Makeup by Giovanissa, you will have the opportunity to get to know who will be painting your face and in return, she will do her best to fully understand what your day-to-day makeup usage is and what you're comfortable with.

With so many cosmetic brands competing for sales and lifelong fans, Giovanissa loves everyone's favorite MAC eye shadows because of their "beautiful pigmentation and vibrant colors". She also is a fan of Sephora's Makeup Forever HD foundations because of its ability to be a build-able, flawless coverage all while remaining invisible under high definition cameras.

For anyone not wanting to shell out hundreds for makeup that tends to run out eventually, she also loves the drugstore L'Oreal Voluminous Mascara because "it thickens lashes evenly and smoothly, leaving them soft with virtually no flakes and a luxurious look." She also explains that part of the makeup craft, is knowing your brushes and using good quality ones. Giovanissa's favorite brushes come from MAC and Sigma.

With some holiday always around the corner, knowing what makeup trend is happening is crucial for not just a makeup artist, but any lover of creative beauty. Giovanissa loves a smokey, metallic eye, and for something like New Years Eve, glitter can be your friend.

"Glitter, glitter and more glitter," exclaims Giovanissa. "Red, sultry lips, matte color nails and a sexy cat eye."

When asked what advice she has for up and coming makeup artists, Giovanissa says to study magazines and determine what kind of makeup artistry is right for them.

"Practice, practice, practice," says the Makeup by Giovanissa artist. "Most importantly, do not be afraid to follow your dream."
