Make your plans now for the London 2012 Summer Olympic Games

Even though it’s January and we are in the middle of winter, many sports and travel enthusiasts have already begun to think about summer.  Beginning on Friday, July 27th and continuing through Sunday, August 12th, several million people will descend upon London for the 2012 Summer Olympic Games.  They will then be followed by The Paralympic Games August 29th through September 9th.  According to the London 2012 website, the start of the Olympic Games is now less than 200 days away.

For those that want to cross the pond to take in some of the action now is the time to make your plans. Many people have already booked their trips so the first thing to consider is the availability of tickets to the various sporting events that you might be interested in.

To make the ticketing process run more efficiently, tickets to the different events and competitions for residents outside of Europe are being sold through authorized ticket resellers in each country.  For U.S. residents tickets are being handled by CoSport. The company specializes in putting together hospitality packages specifically for the Olympic Games and has been doing so since the 2000 games.

Of course if you want to make your own travel arrangements there are plenty of options for flights to London from both JFK and Newark airports.  Most direct flights arrive in to Heathrow  while those with connecting flights through Europe generally arrive in to Gatwick.

London is a large city and the assortment of different athletic events will be taking place in various parts of the city and the surrounding areas.  In order to help visitors plan on where to stay, the organizers of the games have put together a comprehensive map of London’s Underground along with the corresponding sports taking place in that area.

If you are interested in booking a complete travel package with CoSport, the company has produced a map showing the locations of their hotels in relation to each of the Olympic venues.

There’s a lot of planning involved when travelling to an event as large as the Olympics. Next time we’ll take a look at London’s assortment of Olympic sites and the specific sports that each will be hosting.
