St. Patrick’s Day is truly a holiday that’s meant for celebration. It’s a day for dressing up, for wishing others good luck…and for crafting. Make DY party crafts this St. Patrick’s Day, and make the holiday memorable.
Stamp Out Quick Decorations
There’s an easy way to put shamrock decorations on napkins, tablecloths, cups and other decorations: get a heart-shaped stamp. Wash away all the pink ink and dip the stamp in a green ink pad instead. Stamp it twice to create shamrocks or four-leaf clovers anywhere.
Cut Up Edible Four-Leaf Garnish
Get ordinary green peppers to add edible four-leaf clover garnishes to any plate. Slice the pepper across the width, not the length, to get a pretty four-leaf clover shape. Cut a second pepper lengthwise and you’ll get stems.
Set Out Your Pot of Gold
Everyone knows the leprechauns hide a pot of gold the end of every rainbow. Hide yours behind your buffet table. Hang streamers or colored fabric strips on the wall to create the rainbow. Place your pot on the table in front of the rainbow, and fill it with gold candy coins.
Add a Little Luck to Every Drink
Serve drinks with straws to show off your four-leaf clover straw toppers. Get green cardstock and scissors, along with some bendable green straws, to make every drink Irish. Cut cardstock into 5-inch squares and fold them diagonally in triangles. Fold each triangle in half to make a smaller triangle, and trim the corners.
Open one fold and cut a V slit into the bottom of the triangle, at the center. Unfold it again and re-fold on the opposite diagonal so it will sit the right way. Slide your four-leaf clover onto your straws, and serve!
Bestow the Luck of the Irish on Guests
Give guests great DIY party favors they won’t forget. Get some candy kettles from a craft store (or candy shop!) and fill them with soil. Add shamrock seeds and allow them to grow. If you’re not starting your project a few weeks in advance, dig some actual clover or shamrocks up from the yard and place them with soil inside the kettles. Add a green ribbon or a shamrock on a toothpick, and give the lucky kettles to guests as party favors.
Create Pretty Green Candle Decorations
Green candles might only see use at St. Patrick’s Day and maybe Christmas. Save your money on standard white candles instead, and use split peas to add the right color. Place them inside vases that are slightly larger than the candles and pour the peas around them to cover the candles halfway. Now, you’ve got a pretty green decoration you can re-use any day of the year.
