Make your own pizza from scratch

On Super Bowl Sunday, everyone wants pizza. Don't take a chance on not getting your order from your favorite shop because of the tremendous demand; it is cheap and easy to make your own.

Pick up your ingredients at DeVitis Italian Market at 560 E. Tallmadge Avenue in Akron. Hours are Monday - Saturday 8:30am to 6pm and Sunday 9am to 1pm.

Best-ever Homemade Pizza

2 16-oz. cans tomatoes, undrained and chopped

2 small green peppers, chopped

2 small onions, chopped

2 bay leaves

2 teaspoons salt

2 teaspoons sugar

1 teaspoon oregano

dash pepper

Combine these ingredients in large saucepan. Simmer 1 hour until thickened. Remove bay leaves.

Spread sauce evenly over pizza crusts, leaving a border around edge.

1/2 pound ground beef

1 teaspoon salt

Brown beef with salt in skillet; drain. Spoon meat over sauce.

Top with your favorites, like pepperoni, olives, mushrooms, etc.

Bake at 450 degrees for 10 minutes. Sprinkle with 3 cups shredded cheddar cheese and 3 cups shredded mozarella cheese. Bake an additional 10 minutes.

Remove from oven and sprinkle with 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese. Makes 2 pizzas, about 8 slices each.
