Make time for music with Make Music Festival

Celebrate the Summer Solstice with Make Music Chicago—a live, one-day, free music festival on the first day of summer.  People of all ages, music of all genres, and musicians of all levels are invited to gather throughout the day in Chicago’s public spaces to engage in spontaneous music-making.

Inspired by France’s Fête de la Musique—a national musical holiday marking its 30th anniversary this year—Make Music Chicago takes place at Daley Plaza (50 W. Washington); Chicago Cultural Center (78 E. Washington); Alliance Française (810 N. Dearborn) and at other city locations from 7:00 am to 5:00 pm on Tuesday, June 21, 2011.

Since 1982, Fête de la Musique has become an international phenomenon, taking place on June 21 in more than 460 cities in 110 countries, including Germany, Italy, Egypt, Syria, Morocco, Australia, Vietnam, Congo, Cameroon, Fiji, Colombia, Chile, Nepal and Japan.

The popular Rush Hour Concerts at St. James Cathedral series inaugurates the fest, which culminates in an evening grand finale at St. James Cathedral Commons on 65 East Huron Street. Partners of Make Music Chicago include 98.7 WFMT, Alliance Française de Chicago, the Consulate General of France in Chicago, Chicago Sister Cities International and St. James Cathedral.  Comcast is the lead sponsor of the event.
