Make sure you're prepared for Denver's next job fair, June 24

Over 200 positions are promised to be available at the next Denver Career Fair on Thursday, June 24. No one has to tell you that applying for jobs online can get frustrating (and pretty fruitless most of the time). Getting to meet potential employers face-to-face is your chance to stand out from the crowd.

Thursday, June 24
Doubletree Hotel, 3203 Quebec St., Denver
11:00 AM to 2:00 PM
Free to attend! Register here

To make the most of job fair attendance, treat it like an interview by dressing professionally and being on your best behavior. Remember that firm handshake, maintain eye contact, and work on your listening skills.

You still have time to print professional-looking business cards that will remind people who you are and what you do (no matter how you shine at the fair, recruiters won't remember you from Adam after looking at hundreds of faces all day; a business card is a great addition to a resume);

Register your name as a domain and use it to showcase your skills, experience, creativity, and involvement. Be sure to link to your blog and professional online profiles, and put the URL on your business card.

If you're not entirely sure what type of position you want to pursue right now, use informational interviews to help gain some focus for your search so you don't waste your time or recruiters' time pursuing a job you don't really want.

Career experts will be available on-site to provide free resume reviews, so take advantage of it. The job fair website recommend taking at least 25 copies of your resume with you, but to really make the most of your attendance and stand out from the crowd, try this strategy: check out the list of attending companies (you'll get a link after you register), choose those you're interested in, do some advance research, and then tailor your resume to fit their needs. Mark the different versions of your resume with small sticky notes so you know which one to leave with which recruiter.
