Make it yourself fabric softener

Living well in this struggling economy take a good bit of creativity, even more so when you are surviving on one income.  Making things yourself at home is becoming more and more the norm for countless families across Central Texas.

This Examiner has already tried her hand at homemade laundry detergent (see recommended articles for directions), and wanted to give homemade fabric softener a try.  It is a very simple and inexpensive recipe.

You will need:

6 cups of HOT water

2 cups of conditioner

3 cups of white vinegar

1 large container

Pour the 2 cups of your conditioner of choice into the 6 cups of hot water and stir until completely dissolved.  Add the 3 cups of vinegar and mix well.  Store in a large container and use the same amount as you would of store-bought fabric softener.  This recipe is safe for he washers.

One small detail to keep in mind is the fact that you can make this recipe even cheaper by using coupons to purchase your conditioner.  There are very commonly coupons for suave conditioner.  Suave brand is usually cheap to begin with and if you use a BOGO (buy one get one coupon) in addition to a savings coupon (i.e. 55 cents off one), you can get 2 conditioners for less than you would normally pay for one.  Keep one for the bathroom and use the other for you fabric softener.  If you do this, then the only cost associated with your detergent is the vinegar and miniscule price of tap water!
