Make It Rain - A Devotion

Deuteronomy 32:1-4 (NLT)
“Listen, O heavens, and I will speak! Hear, O earth, the words that I say! Let my teaching fall on you like rain; let my speech settle like dew. Let my words fall like rain on tender grass, like gentle showers on young plants. I will proclaim the name of the LORD; how glorious is our God!
He is the Rock; his deeds are perfect. Everything he does is just and fair. He is a faithful God who does no wrong; how just and upright he is!”

Drought, dry, barren land needs rain. There are days when I feel the very same way. Naturally, I do not need to physically stand in a rain shower, or I could easily step into the bathtub and just turn on the water. When I am physically thirsty, I can turn on the faucet in the kitchen and fill a glass. In the natural, I can satisfy the physical desire but what about spiritual thirst? How does one find spiritual satisfaction? Quite simply – we must learn to make it rain. God’s Word including His Teaching and Instruction detail the lifestyle and steps to release God’s Rain. His Rain is His Goodness and Faithfulness. It is from Heaven and can be easily navigated by His Spirit. But as in life if one is not prepared for the rain it can be a devastating and overwhelming experience. Believers must learn to thirst for the provision, blessing and promises of God AND learn how to release it from Heaven. While humanity has no control over the natural rain for it pours out on the just and unjust, believers do have the power to open the windows of Heaven when it comes to His Spirit allowing God’s Best to rain in our life. What about you? Do you need to make it rain today?

Acts 14:16-17 (NLT)
In the past he permitted all the nations to go their own ways, but he never left them without evidence of himself and his goodness. For instance, he sends you rain and good crops and gives you food and joyful hearts.”

God is good at types and shadows taking natural things and giving them spiritual relevance all to expand the knowledge and understanding of the human mind to connect with God’s Heart. In Deuteronomy, His Teaching will fall like rain, His Speech settle like dew, and His Words fall like tender rain showing young plants. God will rain His Word to create new life in you today. If you will take the time to discover the potential of the rain, it will make you thirsty for it. Soon nothing will satisfy you like an outpouring of God’s Spirit in your life. God intentionally created rain as yet one more thing to point man to His Kingdom and all the benefits hidden there for His Children. Rain is for our benefit – physically and spiritually.

Job 36:28 (NLT) The rain pours down from the clouds, and everyone benefits.

What an encouraging Word for those in the midst of a storm today! The Lord has said when it rains, EVERYONE benefits. No matter what you are going through today, if you prepare your heart to receive by removing the sin that would choke new growth, removing the rocks that have hardened spiritual soil, furrowing rows to receive the seed of His Word, and getting ready to let faith cover the new crop and wait until it comes – you will have God’s Very Best. Problem is most of the people who cry out for God to rain in their life are not ready when He comes. A farmer prepares a field with the expectation of rain. Is your life ready for the rain? You will benefit. Everyone does.

Exodus 16:4 (NLT)
Then the LORD said to Moses, “Look, I’m going to rain down food from heaven for you. Each day the people can go out and pick up as much food as they need for that day. I will test them in this to see whether or not they will follow my instructions.”

God provides for His People. He uses the rain. However, many times people are not faithful to the Lord and do not see the provision that He has sent. They are hungry and thirsty for something else. What if God told you that He was going to provide for you every single day of your life and all you had to do was obey Him to receive it? He is giving it to you because of spiritual blindness makes it impossible to see so we must be led by His Spirit, would you be willing to walk away from your past into the New Life God promised? “And this same God who takes care of me will supply all your needs from his glorious riches, which have been given to us in Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 4:19) The Word of God indicates that God has provided everything His People need so what’s the problem. Why do believers continue to live in famine and drought-like conditions? All of God’s Provision, Promises and Blessings are laid before us to be gathered yet we miss it because we do not want to obey the Lord and follow His Ways, but we still cry out for God to rain in our lives. The problem is and always has been man’s inability to follow God’s Instructions.

Deuteronomy 11:14-15 (NLT)
“Then he will send the rains in their proper seasons—the early and late rains—so you can bring in your harvests of grain, new wine, and olive oil. He will give you lush pastureland for your livestock, and you yourselves will have all you want to eat.”

God sends rains in their proper seasons. This is indicative of the steps of our life being ordered by the Lord. (Psalm 37:23) It is leading us to His Goodness and Faithfulness according to His Plan that does not change even when His People do. If you want God’s Best for your life, you will find it His Way. If I plant flowers in the middle of summer and expect it to rain, I am being silly. But if I plant them in spring when showers are expected, then I am using knowledge and understanding that has become wisdom. If you are living in the past immersed in sin, how will God ever make it to you? He cannot tolerate it. But if you repent stepping out of sin and darkness into His Light, His Blessing can be found. It sounds so simple but many are caught in the drought of life because they do not understand the importance of God’s Way or His Timing. Like lived in the natural ignoring the spiritual will result in reaping and sowing without God’s Favor, simply living in His Provision. But for those who choose to live in God’s Kingdom led by His Spirit, there is an interesting development in obedience.

Leviticus 26:3-5 (NLT)
“If you follow my decrees and are careful to obey my commands, I will send you the seasonal rains. The land will then yield its crops, and the trees of the field will produce their fruit. Your threshing season will overlap with the grape harvest, and your grape harvest will overlap with the season of planting grain. You will eat your fill and live securely in your own land.

Obedience brings about a change of season when one is preparing for an outpouring of God’s Spirit. Through knowing God’s Word AND doing it, the seasons begin to overlap and now you can live in a continual, perpetual season of God’s Favor and Prosperity. Harvest overlaps with planting and there is always provision. You will eat your fill and live securely. With a struggling economy most families have been forced to budget and save to survive, but for those who live in an outpouring of God’s Spirit – there is no famine or drought just perpetual prosperity. Obedience is the key!

Psalm 65:9-10 (NLT)
You take care of the earth and water it, making it rich and fertile. The river of God has plenty of water; it provides a bountiful harvest of grain, for you have ordered it so. You drench the plowed ground with rain, melting the clods and leveling the ridges. You soften the earth with showers and bless its abundant crops.

For those not quite ready for such abundance, God will use the rain to prepare us for fertility and develop our faith. His Faithfulness never leaves you in settlement but provokes you to His Best. Satisfaction is elusive for one who is thirsty until the need is met. Contentment can be found no other way for the one whose heart is after God. No matter how many substitutes we accept, eternity has been placed in our heart (Ecclesiastes 3:11) so superficial, temporary things do not work. Do you need some rain to break up your hardened heart? God will drench you, if you only ask. He will pour out His Spirit preparing you to receive His Very Best. He loves you that much!

Psalm 68:9 (NLT) You sent abundant rain, O God, to refresh the weary land.

An outpouring of the Spirit of God will refresh your weary land. It will restore your soul. Relieve desperation. Revive devastation. Don’t run from the rain but step into it today. This world has nothing for you. It will never satisfy you. It cannot find contentment. God has everything you need!

Psalm 85:6 (NLT)
When they walk through the Valley of Weeping, it will become a place of refreshing springs. The autumn rains will clothe it with blessings.

Whatever you are going through today has hidden blessings. The problem is we cannot find them through our tears sometimes. God has provided His Spirit to be our Comforter. By His Spirit, we discover the refreshing springs and restoring rain God has provided through Jesus Christ to all of His People. Do not stop walking or run away from the storm just keep your faith and walk through it – there are blessings there.

Isaiah 30:23 (NLT)
Then the LORD will bless you with rain at planting time. There will be wonderful harvests and plenty of pastureland for your livestock.

Rain is reserved for planting time. If you are not ready to sow and reap, then rain will wash away your preparation. It is for an appointed time. “When the ground soaks up the falling rain and bears a good crop for the farmer, it has God’s blessing. But if a field bears thorns and thistles, it is useless. The farmer will soon condemn that field and burn it.”(Hebrews 6:7-8) It cannot be anymore plain than that. Only those preparing to harvest and planting seeds of faith will see productivity in the rainy season. Otherwise the field is useless. Do not allow your life to be wasted by a lack of productivity. Plant seeds faith found in the Word of God, His Will and His Way. Then when the rain comes you will be blessed!
This is how to make God’s Blessings rain in your life:

Joel 2:12-14 (NLT)
That is why the LORD says, “Turn to me now, while there is time. Give me your hearts. Come with fasting, weeping, and mourning. Don’t tear your clothing in your grief, but tear your hearts instead.” Return to the LORD your God, for he is merciful and compassionate, slow to get angry and filled with unfailing love. He is eager to relent and not punish. Who knows? Perhaps he will give you a reprieve, sending you a blessing instead of this curse. Perhaps you will be able to offer grain and wine to the LORD your God as before.

Repentance is the turning point when sin no longer keeps us from God’s Best. Our lives have the potential to become productive. It will open the windows of Heaven for you! No longer is there a barrier between you and the blessings God has reserved for you.

Joel 2:23-24 (NLT)
Rejoice, you people of Jerusalem! Rejoice in the LORD your God! For the rain he sends demonstrates his faithfulness. Once more the autumn rains will come, as well as the rains of spring. The threshing floors will again be piled high with grain, and the presses will overflow with new wine and olive oil.

Now that you access to God’s Presence, allow the Lord to begin to restore your life by remaining in the overflow He is sending. His Love is amazing. It is definitely overwhelming. As God demonstrates His Faithfulness, decide in your heart to remain faithful to the Lord as well. It is in this place you will experience total restoration that will then become prosperity!

Joel 2:28-29 (NLT)
“Then, after doing all those things, I will pour out my Spirit upon all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy. Your old men will dream dreams, and your young men will see visions. In those days I will pour out my Spirit even on servants—men and women alike.”

Once you tap into the Kingdom of God and receive the overflow of God’s Spirit in your life – look out. You are about to experience a flood of all the provision, blessing, promise, prosperity and favor that Your Father has been keeping safe for you as you found your way back to Him. Now He can release His Full Potential in your life. You will be blown away. His Love will sweep you off your feet like a swift current carrying you faithfully through all the Goodness that He has. Ask the Lord to rain in your life today. (Zechariah 10:1) Be prepared and pray for it. (James 5:17-18) Wait for it until it comes, it will be worth it. (James 5:7-8) Make it rain!

Acts 2:32-33 (NLT)
“God raised Jesus from the dead, and we are all witnesses of this. Now he is exalted to the place of highest honor in heaven, at God’s right hand. And the Father, as he had promised, gave him the Holy Spirit to pour out upon us, just as you see and hear today.”

Titus 3:4-8 (NLT)
But—“When God our Savior revealed his kindness and love, he saved us, not because of the righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He washed away our sins, giving us a new birth and new life through the Holy Spirit. He generously poured out the Spirit upon us through Jesus Christ our Savior. Because of his grace he declared us righteous and gave us confidence that we will inherit eternal life.” This is a trustworthy saying, and I want you to insist on these teachings so that all who trust in God will devote themselves to doing good. These teachings are good and beneficial for everyone.
