It can be challenging to find a great place for a date night meal and drinks that is comfortable, affordable and fun. Look no further than the newly opened Southside Spirit House in San Francisco’s SOMA district.
On Friday and Saturday nights Southside's new two for $22 deal gets you and your sweetie to share some time and great food without the guesswork. The special includes two of Sourthside's specialty cocktails and a pizza of your choosing.
Pizza selections such as the Happy Hippie with mushroom, Fontina, and truffle oil are sure to please, while a new Beet Salad with delicious Burrata offers a healthy choice to start your meal. Popular seasonal cocktail such as the Ramble On, made with Gin, fresh lime, blueberries and basil syrup will make conversation a breeze. The Maiden Lane - a concoction of bourbon, fresh strawberries and Ginger Beer also provides lots to talk about.
To make any evening brighter add some bubbly including Charles Heidseick Brut Reserve, Rose Reserve Champagne ($99/bottle), or Secco Italian Bubbles 2012 from Veneto Prosecco for $10/glass to lend a celebratory air.
Our evening began with the Torero En Llamas, blanco tequila, luxardo, lime agave, chartreuse and served on fire – a dramatic start to the evening and a Corpse Reviver with gin, orange liqueur, Lillet Blanc, absinthe and lemon juice.
The kale salad caught our attention with the addition of cilantro lime aioli, pickled red onions, generous amounts of parmesan, cherry tomatoes and balsamic reduction dressing. Kale is considered healthy, but this was also spicy, decadent and delicious. We couldn’t decide which pizza to order, so we started with the Gringo featuring roasted garlic corn, poblano peppers, cotija cheese, cilantro lime crema, jalapenos and dry cured chorizo. It was a great choice, spicy, rich and oh so satisfying.
Our next selection was the Grateful Dead with Zoes’ fennel, Greek sausage, smoked bacon, marinara, mozzarella, garlic oil, and topped with wild arugula. This carnivore pizza was hearty and delicious complemented by mounds of peppery arugula.
We couldn’t resist the Happy Hippie with truffled mushrooms, Fontina cheese, thyme, caramelized onions, truffle oil and squash blossoms. It was a decadent choice with sumptuous flavors.
Cocktail lovers will appreciate Southside’s expansive selection of fine and rare spirits transformed into hand crafted cocktails made with fresh ingredients in new and classic combinations. House-made syrups such as roasted blueberry flamed orange peels and other flourishes provide innovative twists on a seasonally rotating selection.
DJ infused music creates a cool vibe during spirited evenings. On the first Thursday of each month, DJ Kirk and Jon Blunk from Sweater Funk offer 70's modern and northern soul.
Beginning in October, menus feature hearty fare and Oktoberfest inspired food and drinks including Bratwurst Sliders, pumpkin ale, and German beer.
