Make homemade watercolor paint for your child, cheap craft recipe, frugal mom

You can quickly and easily make watercolor paint for your child using just three ingredients: water, food coloring and cornstarch!

Start by adding about one half teaspoon of cornstarch in any small container. The little containers that hold sides of catsup or tarter sauce are perfect. You can also use the lid of a jar.

Add just a bit of water and stir. Keep adding water a drop at a time until it turns to liquid. Then add a drop of food coloring. That's all there is to it!

Sanford Shopping Tip!!!  Run to Family Dollar in Sanford and pick up some tiny plastic containers to store your homemade paints. They are little square plastic containers with white lids. They come 8 in a pack for $1.00.  When you store the paints (no need to refrigerate) they will harden. Just add more water next time you use them!

Sanford shopping tip

If you need craft supplies for your art and craft projects, you can find lots of supplies at the local Walmart. Super Walmart is located at 1930 Main Street (Route 109) in South Sanford. And if you are looking for other holiday items, you must check out the following stores: Ocean State Job Lot located at 1327 Main Street in Sanford (it's where the old Walmart used to be), and Marden's Surplus & Salvage located at 1247 Main Street in Sanford.

Where you can get art and craft books in Sanford

If you love looking through books for crafting ideas, you can find all the craft books you need at the two local libraries. The Louis B. Goodall Memorial Library is located at 952 Main Street in Sanford. The Springvale Public Library is located at 443 Main Street in Springvale. You can look in the adult section and the children's section. Even if you are looking for crafts suitable for adults, you can come up with some fun craft ideas by looking through children's books, and the instructions are usually easier to understand. You should also check out the second hand book store Books Revisted. They carry lots of craft books and their gently used books are priced to sell! Books Revisted is a non-profit bookstore that benefits the Visiting Nurse program. If you buy any books from that store, you will be helping a good cause.
