Oversized metal wall letters have been a popular home decor accessory for years. You can hang individual letters on the wall, prop them on a shelf or spell out a profound message like EAT or READ.
However, the letters aren't cheap. Zinc letters from Anthropologie, for example, are nearly $100 each. And it often seems the letter you want isn't in the store.
Artist Arounna Khounnoraj provides a DIY for making plaster wall letters at the Canadian design blog Poppytalk. The letters are relatively cheap to make and, best of all, you can make whatever letters (or words) you want.
Khounnoraj made a mold from cardboard and hot glue, which she then lined with packing tape. She used plaster of paris in the mold with some strips of burlap in the middle for added strength.
After the plaster dried, she sanded the letter and coated it with graphite to give it a metal look.
